On July 15 the IRS started sending out the monthly Child Tax Credit payments. There were about 35 million families that received either a check or direct deposit. Each payment was up to $300 per month for each child under the age of 6 and up to $250 per month for each child ages 6 through 17.
It was noticed that some who opted out of this payment still received checks and direct deposits. If you opted out and still received a check do not deposit the check. Instead, write “VOID” across the front and back and keep the documentation with your 2021 tax files. You will likely receive payment each month for the rest of the year.
The payment schedule is as follows:
Aug. 13, Sept. 15, Oct. 15. Nov. 15 and Dec. 15
